Twelve year old, Carley Connors, can't remember anything from that terrible night. The night that landed her and her mother in the hospital. All she knows now is she's going to a foster home. As Carley arrives she can already tell she doesn't want to be there. She believes that that Mrs. Murphy is "too nice", and that anyone like her must be hiding a secret. When Carley starts remembering things from that night she can't decide what is real and what is right. Had her mother used her to save her self? Or had her mother tried to help her all she could? Carley isn't sure about her thoughts and she doesn't want to ask anyone the details of that night, all she will believe is that her mother betrayed her. When she finally goes to visit her mother, she tells Carley that she should stay at her foster home where they can take care of her. This made Carley believe the thought that her mother was the reason she was in the hospital and now in foster care. As Mrs. Murphy's love for Carley grows she starts to feel where she belongs, with the people she belongs with. When she thinks she knows what she wants she's told the truth about that night. That her mother had done everything she could to save Carley, but she could only fight for so long. Carley then has to make the hardest choice of her life. Does she stay with the Murphys? Or go back with her mother? The fate of her future is now in her hands.
