The themes in the book were very easy to point out, and were said clearly:
-One of the multiple themes could be, don't be afraid to be yourself. This shows through with Carley. She was so afraid of being who she really was, or saying who she really way. She was so afraid of how everyone would treat her if they knew what had really happened to her. Instead of being honest with them she hid who she was until she no longer could. She told everyone her mom was Mrs. Murphy, and she called her Mrs. M which stood for "Mrs. Mom". Telling everyone it was a joke they shared, even though by telling everyone that she only caused herself to get caught up in a bigger and bigger lie that she wasn't able to cover up.
-Another theme could be not to judge someone by their past. This shows through with Toni, who in the end, ends up to be Carley's best friend. Toni ends up figuring out that Carley isn't actually the Muphys daughter, and that she is being fostered there for awhile. That caused Toni to be angry at Carley. Not anger at her for being in foster care, but angry at her for not telling her the truth. Eventually, Toni and Carley are best friends again. Toni didn't judge Carley by her past which caused them to have a very strong and tight connection. They have a bond that no matter where they end up they will always have with each other. Even when Carley left, Toni didn't feel like she was gone, because they have such a strong relationship together.
